Biography
I was born in China and immigrated to Canada when I was five years old. I didn’t “always know I was going to be an artist”, I just know that I didn’t want to become a doctor.
I firmly believe that the idea of the “independent-loner-genius” artist is an individualistic and capitalistic concept. We are nothing without our communities.
I consider myself to be a printmaker - but I also work in fibre and digital media.
Some people may believe the methods of print media to be restrictive, but I find the required discipline and rigorous processes to be refreshing. To me, there is so much freedom in a medium that allows you to focus your creative energy on the communication of the message and the effectiveness of your imagery.

My work mainly focuses on my experiences with cultural identity, gender, and sexuality. I explore themes of time, memory, remembering, and family in my work. I examine the ways in which memory is tied to personal identity, the sense of self, cultural identity, and family. Objects of material culture and nostalgic objects are often starting points for my imagery. I am also interested in the relationship we have to ephemera like receipts and mementos.
